Sometimes our hearts whisper to us of something beyond….

What lies beyond need,
      beyond competence,
      beyond attraction,
beyond what we know in this now?

Our willingness to explore this “beyond” leads us  - sometimes gently and sometimes insistently – in an ever-unfolding adventure of discovery.

The willingness to let go of the familiar, that with which we seek to remain in control, creates the space for expansion.

Willingness to be present in the not knowing is a hallmark of wisdom, and foundational for peace.

From Fear to Freedom

As you may have read in the April issue, the name for this newsletter grew out of my reflecting on what it means to “go beyond” where we are now: In our thinking, our creating and what we experience as the reality of our daily lives.

You’ll notice a slight change in the banner for this issue: I’ve changed “Mastery” to “Being,” which tells you how my focus is shifting. This serves as a reminder that we are all works in progress and this adventure we call “life” is, indeed, an ongoing journey!

Those of you who follow the blog at www.healingscarcity.com are already aware of how much of my recent thinking targets the global pandemic of fear which shows up as scarcity.

This past year has served to heighten an underlying lack of freedom experienced by many people around the world. When we think of scarcity and fear, we tend to think of those things tied to survival: food, money, water. Yet the fears that drive scarcity seem to go beyond those more obvious issues. (more on this in future issues)

Rather than focus on the fears in this article, let’s look at how we shift out of the fear when it shows up. One of the most powerful tools we can use in the face of fear is choice, specifically the choice to remain present in each unfolding moment and the choice no longer to give power to fear.

To move beyond holding “choice” as a concept and begin to integrate it for yourself:\

  1. Begin to use the words, “I choose” instead of I wish, hope, want or need. Notice how your energy shifts when you simply shift your language.
  2. Notice those times you feel “off” – you know, those times you feel irritable, funky, less than optimal. If you feel anything other than peace, joy and flow, use the awareness of that “less than optimum” feeling as a prompt to go back to a conscious choice.
  3. As you think about what is ideal for you, at how “life on your terms” looks and feels, what are the choices that support you in creating those “ideal” realities?
  4. List or journal those choices so you can bring them from the realm of thought to the concrete world via the process of writing them down. The exercise of focusing on your choices to articulate them clearly also supports you with holding them more at the level of conscious awareness.

Below is one example of how to apply some of the above tips:
If you have multiple commitments and priorities and find yourself pushing or feeling overwhelmed, first get very clear about how you choose your current experience of pushing or overwhelm to be different.

How this might sound is: “I choose to move through my days and nights in peaceful flowing.” Or, “I choose to release that which no longer serves me, including distractions, tasks and projects that are not aligned with my highest good.” Or even, “ I choose that x, y and z are handled with ease, joy and grace, and I choose that I have the clarity on how to create this as my reality.”

And know this: Each time you make a conscious choice, you are strengthening your connection with yourself. This in turn can take you far beyond fear and exponentially expand your understanding of freedom. Try it!

In celebration of the adventure!
